Ardvanderlinden painted 1100 flags with many children on Place d'Armes to spread our message "unity through identity". The field was approximately 300 m2!
The Luxembourg flag is similar to the flag of the Netherlands, which uses a darker shade of blue. The similarity is just a coincidence, there's no historical connection.
The atmosphere on the square was friendly and we got a lot of support. We met people from many nations; 44% of Luxembourg's population is immigrant. Being a small country, Luxembourg is (or maybe has to be) open for external influences. We experienced that most people in Luxembourg city are proud of being a part of a multi-cultural society.
When we told we are born in the Netherlands, someone said about the Dutch flag: "when your colours are too long in the sun it becomes ours".
After explaining the project to a man, he said: "I was already affraid that the Luxembourg national party had such a good idea".
It was a great day with a lot of interaction and open discussion. The morning after our event, Luxemburger Wort (main newspaper in Luxembourg) published an article about "unity through identity".
